New Release - The Waverly Mermaid Tail Towel and Swimsuit Cover Sewing Pattern

A colorful mermaid tail that's perfect for the beach or pool, this towel wrap would delight any young aspiring mermaid. Four buttons at the waist make each size adjustable for a range of waist measurements. The tail can be worn a number of different ways.

Button the tail around her waist or chest and have her put her hand through the strap and your little mermaid grows legs and can walk.

If she sits down and puts her feet into the fluke, she becomes a mermaid.

If she gets cold, she can pull it up and over her shoulders.

She can also spread it out and lay on top.

The child's pattern includes 4 children's sizes from XS to L (2 to 12-ish years).

The Super Wonder Mom AND Wonder Hero Apron Patterns

Do you ever wish you had Super Powers? The ability to wash dishes at lightning speed...to make gourmet meals from leftovers...to slow time so you can do everything on your "to-do" list...? Just put on a Super Hero Apron and feel the power! Okay, so it won't give you Super Powers, but it will make you look like a superhero (and it may even give you the silly freedom to play super heroes with your kids every once in a while).

I'm so excited to finally have TWO new patterns ready for release. These new apron patterns are for all of the amazing-super-wonder-moms out there. The first style is called the "Super Wonder Mom Apron".

It has all the pattern pieces and/or directions that you will need to create two different apron styles: A sweetheart neckline with a peaked belt (first photo), or a square neckline with a straight belt (second photo). The square neckline bib is the perfect size for doing an applique or two, and this pattern is loaded with applique options. (Please note that the pattern does not, however, contain any trademarked or copyrighted designs).

This pattern is fairly easy to do, but the peaked waistband can be tricky, so it's not recommended for beginners.

The second style is called the "Wonder Hero Apron".  This pattern was made as a simpler version of the (more complicated) Super Wonder Mom Apron. It still has the peaked belt and neckband, but is quite a bit easier to sew.

Please note that this pattern does not contain any applique templates. You do not have to use solid colors though. Sometimes you will find a fun print that works perfectly. Have fun making an apron that is a reflection of you and your own super-ness!

Also, if you prefer a square neckline there are a few simple instructions near the end of the pattern that explain how to convert the neckline (see photo below).

These aprons are perfect for hosting a super hero party for your kids (or even your adult friends). It would also make a great gift for any wonderful woman in your life (maybe Mother's Day... hint hint), or make one for yourself!

The "Super Wonder Mom" pattern will be priced at $10, but for the first week of release (until  03/22/2013) it's $7.

The "Wonder Hero" pattern will be priced at $8, and for the first week of release (until 03/22/2013) it's $5.

They can be purchased as an instant download from my etsy shop .

You can also enter to win your choice of one of these apron patterns.  And, since I'm releasing two patterns, I will be giving two away this time.  There are two ways to enter:

1. Leave a comment here letting me know you like the pattern.

2. Go to my facebook page and "like". If you're already a facebook follower simply like the post announcing the new pattern. Then come back here and leave a comment letting me know you "liked" on facebook.

That's it. The giveaway is closed at 11:59 pm on 03/22/2013 and the winner will be announced here and on facebook on March 23, 2013.

(If you buy the pattern on sale but end up winning the giveaway, you can pick any other apron pattern that you'd like). Good luck!

New Pattern - The Options Apron

The newest MVD pattern is called the "Options Apron" because it contains all of the pattern pieces and measurements that you will need to make a variety of aprons. With 6 different neckband options (2 sweetheart styles, 2 rounded styles, a square style, and a chevron style), 4 different pocket band options, and 3 different hem options (basic hem, ruffle, and band), you're sure to make an apron that reflects your style.

The Sweetie Pie Apron

This was such a fun little sweetheart apron to make.  Originally, I wanted to be able to make it out of a single yard of fabric.  I fiddled and fudged with the pattern and the fabric until successs was achieved - mission accomplished!  The one drawback was, the neckties turned out a tad short.  Not a problem for me since I'm a bit short waisted...but it could be a problem for those that are not.  So, the pattern includes two different cutting layouts, just in case you want the longer ties.  Short ties = 1 yard of fabric, longer ties = 1 1/8 yards.
short ties

long ties

The apron can either be made with your standard-find-it-almost-anywhere-basic-extra-wide-double-fold-bias-tape (the black apron).  OR, you can make it fancy with some specialty pleated bias trim (the red apron - I found the trim at Hobby Lobby).  The bias tape apron was the easier of the two.

This pattern will be priced at $8, but for the first week of release (until 02/13/2012) it's $5.  It can be purchased as an  instant download here or you can buy it from my etsy shop (and wait for me to email you the pattern.)

Enter to win this apron pattern. Go to my facebook page and "like". If you're already a facebook follower (or if you don't do facebook) just leave a comment letting me know you'd like the pattern.  That's it.  The winner will be announced here and on facebook on February 16, 2012.

(If you buy the pattern on sale but end up winning the giveaway, you can pick any other apron pattern that you'd like).  Good luck!

Welcome 2012

As I sat down to create some new goals for the year, one word continued to whisper to my heart....simplify, simplify, simplify!  I felt like I was at a cross-roads of sorts.  Should I keep doing what I've been doing, or should I refocus my efforts on what I love to do and take that leap of faith?

Well, after much pondering and prayer, I've decided to take the leap.  Up until now, I've focused MVD (Modern Vintage Designs) on creating aprons AND apron patterns.  As a designer, I didn't want to allow others to sell their creations from my patterns, because I didn't want to create competition for myself.  But now, now that I've decided to dedicate my business to creating patterns, I've decided it makes sense to allow others to make and sell items created from MVD patterns. (You can find the terms and conditions here.)

I'm excited to see what this year brings!
